The Professional Alliance is an OSJ (Office of Supervisory Jurisdiction) of Cambridge Investment Research. We are often asked, “What does an OSJ do?” From an organizational perspective, an OSJ is one step below the home office of a broker dealer, and is responsible for overseeing the activities of the Registered Representatives it serves.
A “home office” OSJ is owned by the broker dealer but we are not. The Professional Alliance is totally independent, not affiliated with Cambridge Investment Research nor bound to them by contract. If necessary, we can change broker dealers without penalty.
An OSJ must fulfill the responsibilities assigned to it by the broker dealer. For example, some broker dealers require OSJs to monitor emails or approve trades—so it’s absolutely critical that the OSJ staff is competent and experienced in the areas for which it is responsible.
